The one behind the blog!

My name is Amanda! I love exploring cities, traditions, drawing, bubble tea, indie music, Sunday sundaes in Erdman, and staying up late having good conversations and discussions with friends. I am a psychology major with a child and family studies and environmental studies double minor (as well as a stong appreciator of sociology and art).

During my sophomore year, I was a customsperson, community diversity assistant, and dorm president: all roles on the dorm leadership team who facilitate community building within the dorm and serve as resources for residents. I am the Overbrook Art Program coordinator in Art Club so I design curriculum and teach art classes at a local elementary school. I work as a tour guide/office assistant  in admissions and as the Service and Outreach Coordinator for the Civic Engagement Office, planning Saturdays of Service at local community organizations. I was also an assembly member in Self Governance Association.

I was apart of the Learning and Narrating Childhoods 360 program, an interdisciplinary cluster of classes looking at child development and literacy in Sub-Saharan Africa. For our field placement for our program, we traveled to Ghana over spring break to visit a preschool in a rural village founded by a Haverford alum. I spent this past summer in Yogyakarta, Indonesia interning with the Indonesia Research Program through Haverford’s Center for Peace and Global Citizenship. As a junior, I continued my travels by studying sustainability in Europe while abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark.

This year as a senior, I am a hall advisor on Denbigh 3rd, teach English to adults in Philly for my education placement, serve as a mentor to a group of customspeople as a part of my customs committee duties, applying to public service programs and international fellowships, and writing my thesis in cultural psychology!
